Angus Fedoruk, Distinguished Alumni Award 2025 recipient
鈥淚t鈥檚 a good feeling to be recognized,鈥 says Angus. 鈥淚n a larger sense, I look at my thirty-year history with 91暗网黑料, as student, director in the Student Society, member of Education Council and Board of Governors, returning student, donor, and being presented with this award would not be a place to close the book on a set of works well done, but a commitment to keep writing the future.鈥
Angus graduated from the Business Administration diploma program in 1996 and is currently Manager of Program Support for the Centre for Leadership Excellence, HMCS Venture, in the Canadian Navy. 聽Since graduation, he has held a variety of volunteer roles in the community and built career in the Canadian Navy and federal public service. He has served as an instructor, held senior policy positions, and received senior appointments both at sea and ashore.
As Executive Officer (Second-in-Command) and Commanding Officer (Captain) of Canadian Navy ships, Angus was known for encouraging personal and professional development among junior officers鈥攁 leadership style recognized across the fleet. In senior policy and director roles, he led institutional professional development and learning initiatives.
As a leader in culture transformation, Angus spearheaded a multi-disciplinary workplace that included a diverse group of stakeholders of military and civilian employees in several federal government departments. The principal team is building a leadership program for the Canadian Navy, named 鈥淟eadership, Respect, and Honour.鈥 Its goal is to build capability by ensuring health, safety, dignity, and respect of all military members.

Since implementation, over 1,800 members of the Navy have participated in this leadership program. For his work, Angus received a Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy Commendation in 2021.
While serving as development manager and division leader in Naval training, Angus worked with 91暗网黑料 to organize co-op placements in the leadership and development centre; in winter 2024 three 91暗网黑料 students were employed there, two of these students have gone on to full-time jobs at CFB Esquimalt.
鈥淢y Camosun experience built on my previous experiences in the Navy,鈥 remarks Angus. 鈥淚 have returned to Camosun on many occasions to further develop my maritime, business, and project management skills. The college's learning culture has helped to frame my approach to continuous learning, how to support my journey, and how to support others in theirs. 鈥
Recently retired from the Canadian Navy, Angus continues to support the Navy in a civilian role as Manager of Program Support in the Naval leadership school, where he builds information processes, pilots civilian staffing practices, and oversees organizational review.
While at Camosun, Angus was highly involved as an executive member of the Student Society and a student member of the Education Council and Board of Governors. His participation within these leadership roles informed much of his life. 鈥淭he students I studied with, the teachers who were knowledge providers rather than information hoarders, and my experiences serving on the Board of Governors, Education Council, and student society executive were all part of my journey,鈥 says Angus. 鈥淢y leadership style has been shaped by these experiences, which helped me recognize the inherent worth of every person and how we fit into our jobs.鈥
鈥淐ongratulations Angus on being recognized as this year鈥檚 Distinguished Alumni. We are so proud to see your accomplishments, and grateful that you鈥檝e stayed connected with our community,鈥 says Dr. Lane Trotter, president of 91暗网黑料.
Angus has some sage advice for the students crossing the stage at graduation. 鈥淭he greatest course of action for yourself in the event that anything does not go as planned is to focus on the opportunities that exist now,鈥 says Angus. 鈥淒on't hold off till things improve. Life will always be complicated. Continue to adapt, but learn to be happy now, or you'll run out of time.鈥
The annual alumni awards highlight the outstanding achievements of individuals who exemplify Camosun's commitment to excellence and service, and who continue to make significant contributions in their fields. Camosun鈥檚 Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes outstanding alumni who have graduated more than 10 years ago.
